How to play

Getting started

Checkme puts a chessboard in your chat with Claude or ChatGPT. Add it once, ask for a game, and play your moves on the board.

All articles

1. Add Checkme

Checkme is added once: as a connector in Claude, or as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT. It takes about two minutes, and Checkme itself needs no account. Follow the guide for Claude or for ChatGPT.

2. Ask for a game

In any chat, ask in your own words:

Let's play chess.
I'd like a game against Stockfish, and I'll play Black.

The board opens in the chat. Anything you asked for, such as your side or your opponent, is already chosen on it. Choose the rest on the board, then start: see Setting up a game.

3. Play on the board

Click or tap a piece, then the square it goes to, or drag it there. Dots show where a piece can go. Your opponent answers on the board:

  • Against the assistant, Claude or ChatGPT plays you itself, and talks with you as you go.
  • Against Stockfish, the engine answers at once, at the level you chose, without a word.

4. Talk as you play

Against the assistant, write in the board's message box: your words go straight to your opponent, and the game stays on the board. You can also write in the chat.

In Claude

If the board says Press Send, press Send in the chat: Claude then sees your move and answers. Why it happens.

5. When you want more

Turn on Help and teaching for hints, a threat warning, a check before a costly move, and takebacks: see Help while you play. Each game is kept for a day after its last move.
